APOGEE at Sloan Digital Sky Survey operations<br \/>\n2. Solar Patrol at Holloman Airforce Base<\/p>\n<p>Summary:<br \/>\nLast winter, I was fortunate enough to get to know one of the<br \/>\nastronomers at Apache Point Observatory (a fellow soaring pilot) and<br \/>\nwas invited to an observing session. We also went to see a world wide<br \/>\nsolar activity monitoring program run by the US Air Force. I will<br \/>\ndescribe the visits and the background of the programs going on there.<\/p>\n<p>I have recently purchased a Skywatcher Star Adventure mount and will<br \/>\nbring it for show and tell.<\/p>\n<p>Our speaker:<br \/>\nLarry Bogan, together with Roy Bishop, founded Minas Astronomy Group<br \/>\n23 years ago this autumn. Larry holds a doctorate in physics from<br \/>\nCornell University, and he has taught for many years at Acadia.<br \/>\nLarry&#8217;s interests include astronomy, canoeing, gliding, solar heating<br \/>\ndesign, birding, and Monarch butterflies.
