“Becoming a Naturalist”
Youth Programming at
Nature Nova Scotia’s Annual General
Meeting Weekend
May 25-27th 2012 at the Tatamagouche Centre
Tatamagouche Nova Scotia.
This is a chance for youth (of any age) and families to interact and learn from some of the best naturalists in the Province. The theme of the youth program is “Becoming a Naturalist” where youth will explore the basic skills of a naturalist. Identifying species, observing wildlife and nature and recording it will be key activities in the program. Youth will have a chance to create and use nature journals and learn how to use the tools of the trade including field guides, keys, binoculars and more. There will be lots of opportunity to play great nature games as well!
It is also wonderful opportunity for parents to participate in adult programming while their kids are in the concurrent youth programming, then reconnect for family field trips. They can also enjoy free time as a family in a beautiful natural setting. At least one parent must accompany youth on this weekend as there will be times when they will not be supervised in the program.
Programming is FREE
Ten youth sponsorships are available to help with meals and accommodation

“We feel very privileged to have found this great group.
What a great way for our kids to be introduced to all Nova Scotia has to offer. All events are well-planned, fun & informative!” - Parent of a YNC member
Do you love exploring and learning about nature?
Do you want to meet other kids who love nature?
Join the Young Naturalists’ Club!
The YNC was created for enthusiastic young explorers like you!
The YNC will help you discover the natural world all around you.
You’ll become a ‘nature expert’ by learning how to track animals in the snow,
how to identify birds and plants and by observing nature!
The YNC also helps you learn how to create – for example, you can learn how to build bird and bat houses,
restore shorelines or grow native plants that pollinators will love!
YNC activities will show you how much fun it is to explore the natural world!
You and your friends can participate in interesting workshops
and go fun outings!
You may look for bats, salamanders or owls at night… or splash through a marsh to find amphibians…
or snowshoe through the forest to look for tracks and signs of animals…
What have you always wanted to do?
Tell us your ideas for what you’d like to learn about!
