10:00 am - 11:30 am
*** Sorry, but we have had to cancel this event due to the predicted weather on Dec. 15.***
YNC members are invited to participate in the 114th annual Christmas Bird Count. Coordinated by the Audubon and Bird Studies Canada, this event gets bird watchers of all experience levels to follow a simple protocol for identifying and counting birds. This huge, “citizen science” project makes a critical contribution to bird conservation research. Learn more about the Christmas Bird Count through this video: http://birds.audubon.org/videos/audubons-christmas-bird-count.
Our location for the count will be Point Pleasant Park. We will meet at the little concession hut of the Black Rock Beach parking lot (the “lower lot”) at 10am. There we will be met by a member of the NS Bird Society, who will share his bird identification expertise with us. We’ll identify and count birds both in the sea and forest for about 1.5 hours. Bring your binoculars and bird guides if you have them (if not, we have a few we can lend out), and dress warmly!
