‘Christmas Bird Count’

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

December 15th, ‘Christmas Bird Count’ 10am-12pm

Char Bishop & Sherman Boates have invited us join them on a short leg of their walk at Lumsden Pond Provincial Park to be part of the great annual event of counting the local & migrating birds. We will be participating in an ongoing tradition that combines numbers from all over North America.

‘CBC aims to capture an early winter snapshot of bird populations over many decades and provide birders with an enjoyable social birding experience. Viewed in comparison with other long-term, continentwide, monitoring programs, such as the Breeding Bird Survey, CBC data give us an understanding of the dynamics of bird populations across North America during the early winter. We are also gaining an understanding of the status of bird populations in Latin America, the Caribbean, and U.S. Minor Outlying Islands.’ (Aubudon Society pdf)

We will meet in the parking lot at 10am to get familiar with YNC binoculars, prepare some birdseed cones, & then meet with Char & Sherman. Bring some warm clothes & footwear, & perhaps a thermos of hot cocoa! please email if there are any questions, dnmcln@ecologyfund.net
