7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
SORRY…. this event is cancelled due to the weather this weekend so stay tuned for other starry events this winter…
- Geminid Meteor (www.earthsky.org)
OR Snowsuites! We are going to look at the Geminid meteors and the stars as the moon wanes from the last quarter. Some say this is the best meteor shower of the year! We will also be searching for constellations, planets in our solar system, notable objects in our galaxy and deep sky objects such as other galaxies. Fingers crossed for a nice clear night! I am very excited to have as our guest expert Roy Bishop from the Minas Astronomy Group! Here is a link to their website – http://mag.nature1st.net/. This event will be in a farmer’s field (Wayne Silver) at 1285 Prospect Rd. close to Berwick. This property has a spectacular view of the Valley as well. This is a cold night event so along with your warm and woollies you should bring a flashlight (preferably with a red light setting) and a mug for hot chocolate. I will bring some binoculars but if you have your own bring them along. We will run this event from 7:00pm to 8:30pm but you can stay as long as you like. If the weather does not cooperate that night we may re-schedule. Roy Bishop is a member of the Blomidon Naturalists Club (http://www.blomidonnaturalists.ca/) and he will be bringing their new 2015 Calendars for sale (15$) if anyone would like one. The Calendars are full of photographs of local natural landscapes, objects and animals.
